Fellow Medium Writers, You Rock.
There are plenty of times where I don’t feel like writing. In those times, one of my favorite things to do is go on Medium and simply read the work of others.
I find it both fascinating and inspiring to see the incredible community of writers that call this platform home. There are people from all walks of life, living all around the world, and writing about just about anything. With Medium, everyone’s stories — and by extension, lives — are all in one place.
There’s no doubt about it — Medium, perhaps more so than any other website on the internet, is a place for writers. It’s a pleasure to interact with everyone both here and in great groups such as Medium Partner Program Friends and Medium Mastery on Facebook.
It can be easy to get discouraged or feel that your writing is a waste of time. I’m here to tell you the truth. If you write on Medium, you’re amazing.
Writing is difficult, and you are under no obligation to do it. Yet, you still choose to dedicate your time to creating content, sharing your stories, and often helping others along the way.
Just choosing to take the plunge and become a writer can be a scary experience. You open yourself up to all sorts of potential criticism (the internet can be a real cesspool) and sometimes even open up about things that take strength to write. Each published article is like a piece of your soul given out to the world.
But one article does not a writer make. It takes repetition, which in turn requires perseverance to keep going and the will to improve. Some of you publish every day or even multiple times per day, which is a level of dedication that I find immensely impressive.
Many of us are connected through the Medium Partner Program, which allows us to make a few bucks here and there. But for most of us writers, doing this for a living is just a dream. We write out of our own choosing, without expecting a ton in return. I think that is deserving of praise.
Take a moment to be proud of yourself, and feel the comfort in knowing you have a large group of people along with you for the ride.
What we’re all building here, collectively, is something special. So continue to do what you do, because it makes the world a better place.
